The Benefits of a Brainstorm

I had a really exciting chat with two PUBLICITY PRINCESS members the other day, Pretzel and Catherine who became part of The Publicity Princess family in Thailand earlier this year.

Catherine is part of a great group called Zonta, an international organisation who’s charter is to advance the status of women around the world.

She wanted to pick my brain about an amazingly inspiring woman who helps homeless women and has written a book about her experiences.  Catherine wants so much to help this woman get her message out, but wasn’t quite sure where to start……..so we started throwing some ideas around.

Suddenly we had created a strategy where she will be able to infiltrate a large number of local papers in and around where this author works and lives, we discussed the power of ‘Piggy back Publicity’ and how this is an almost GUARANTEED way to generate publicity, and then we hit on the big one about offering A Current Affair an exclusive for an event this woman is having as a fundraiser.

Wow – what a power lunch!!

I cannot wait to see Catherine’s first draft of her release so we can start getting this out to the media.  Her passion was contagious and we are both very excited about the impact we can have on this woman’s life and the lives of those she helps.

IT’S ALL IN THE ‘SPIN’ – Turning the everyday into the highly sought-after!

Another great publicity lesson for me this week from the trenches of real life!!

My eldest son LOVES Hot Cross Buns – loves them.  So for the weeks prior to Easter and for those after Easter, Hot Cross Buns appear regularly with his yoghurt and apple for breakfast.

He has also (in the past) enjoyed raisin toast.  Note I said ‘in the past’.  He’s been staunchly against it for a while now and firmly informs me he doesn’t like it anymore.

So in an attempt to warm him up on these chilly winter mornings I asked him again if he’d like to have some raisin toast.  Now it’s been a while and he said “what’s it like, I don’t think I like it.”

Well my publicity brain went into overdrive and here’s how the conversation went:

ME: Well you know how you like HOT CROSS BUNS?

SON: Yes

ME: Well this is sometimes called HOT CROSS BUN TOAST – because they only make the Hot Cross Buns in a bun shape around Easter time, and the rest of the year they make it to look like toast.  It’s got all the same stuff in it, but it’s flat like toast, not round like a bun!

SON: oh YEAH!!! I’d love some – thanks mum for buying it!

And he’s happily been eating HOT CROSS BUN TOAST now for 2 weeks!!  He even gets grumpy when we run out!!

It reminded me how with a little tweaking (some call publicity ‘the art of spin’, we can make anything ‘newsworthy’.

What in your business are you calling ‘raisin toast’ when with a little creativity you could create HOT CROSS BUN TOAST and have the masses lining up to try some?

Modern Woman’s Anthology – What an honour!

Hello there

Well I’m back this week from the MODERN WOMAN’S ANTHOLOGY launch – held in Sydney last week.  I was so privileged and honoured to be invited to be one of the contributing authors and on Tuesday this amazing collection of stories was launched by the (recently former) Prime Minister’s wife, Therese Rein.

Even MORE so when Therese mentioned MY piece personally in her launch speech! Very humbling..

It’s been an interesting journey to reflect upon my journey as a modern woman, juggling an international speaking career, clients and of course my  two delicious boys.  The old saying ‘that which does not kill us makes us strong’ springs to mind and indeed this is true of my journey.

But it can also be true of people’s business journey………they do what they’ve always done, getting the results they are oh, so familiar with.

So what does it take to break out from the ‘same old, same old’ and try something new, something a bit different, something which is a little beyond the initial ‘comfort zone’, something which offers MASSIVE benefits and rewards……?

Publicity can be one of those ‘out of comfort zone’ initiatives……

If you’ve not tried it before, you wonder where to start, who to contact, how to do it ‘right’.  Well, wonder no more because if you DO want to set yourself above your competition, I can show you step by step.

All we need to get beyond our comfort zone – whether in life, business or publicity is a little bit of encouragement from those who have blazed the trail before us.

I hope this inspires you to consider stepping beyond YOUR comfort zone.

Taking ACTION = FREE publicity

Just back from the glorious city of Perth where I spent a few days catching up with some really delicious friends and speaking at GLENN TWIDDLE’S REAL ESTATE SUMMIT with Mal Emery, Kurek Ashley and Pat Mesiti.  I arrived home to this email from one of Glenn’s Brisbane based clients (who will hear me speak next Wednesday 23 June.  If you’re in Real Estate and want to attend, just go to www.qreas.com.au and register.)  Those who think getting STACKS of FREE publicity is hard would be well served to READ THIS POST CAREFULLY!!
